Topic Parenting & family support

Practical support for family conversations and change.

Family life includes ordinary pressures, difficult moments and major transitions. SF Connects helps parents and practitioners understand what may be happening, open safer conversations and identify a realistic next step.

Where to start

Four ways to think about what's happening.

01

Talk before problems become patterns

Use prompts that begin with observation and curiosity. Explore what a child or parent is experiencing, what is already helping and what each person needs from the conversation.

02

Look beneath behaviour

Behaviour may communicate stress, unmet need, uncertainty, conflict or an attempt to cope. Practical tools can help families explore patterns and triggers without excusing harm or rushing to blame.

03

Recognise strengths and support

Map the people, routines, skills and community connections that help the family manage. Agree one small change and decide when it will be reviewed.

04

Know when more help is needed

Resources can support reflection and communication, but they do not replace emergency help, safeguarding action, assessment or specialist family support.
