Use resources responsibly

Tools should be used within the boundaries of the user’s role, safeguarding responsibilities and organisational procedures. They support good conversations but do not replace assessment, supervision or specialist intervention.

Conversation prompts can help a child, young person or parent begin with what feels manageable. Strengths mapping can identify supportive people, skills and resources. Relationship circles can explore who matters and where support is available. Feelings check-ins can build emotional vocabulary. Goal ladders can turn a large ambition into smaller actions. Identity and belonging activities can help people explore culture, community and the different parts of who they are.

These tools can be adapted for family conversations, one-to-one sessions, group work, mentoring and reflective supervision. Each published tool should include a clear purpose, suggested questions, guidance for use and a reminder about safeguarding and role boundaries.
